ACADEMIC POLICY

JUNIOR SCHOOL (YN-Y6)

The Junior School has implemented the Cambridge International Primary Program (CIPP). Therefore, the academic standards for YN-Y6 are based on the Curriculum and the Syllabus required and provided by the CIPP. 
 
EXAMINATION
 

There will only be two examinations held in the Junior School i.e. Mid Year Exam and Final Exam, for the Final     Aggregate.

Final Aggregate will be the average of Mid Year and Final Exam. Students joining the school late or after Mid Year     will not be counted towards the Top Achievers even if they have scored the highest marks in any of the subjects in     the Final Exams.

Continual Assessments (C.A) is an integral part of the Examinations.

YN-Y2 (Nursery to year 2) students do not have any special exams they are graded on basis of Continual     Assessments (C.A.).

There will be no makeup test if a student has failed to take any of the examinations or missed any CA unless a     medical certificate is provided within a week.

There will be no retest for any subject

There is no makeup for the two major examinations. On approved medical leave, grades will be based on the     average of the Continual Assessments.

POSITION AWARDS: YN-Y6    
 

 Top Positions -will be awarded to the students achieving the highest overall score. 
     Top Position Grading
Not  applicable for or YN-Y2.

 Outstanding Achievement
     Award will be awarded to students achieving highest scores/achievement in all the basic subjects.

 Achievement Awards will be given to students who have successfully achieved the requirements for all the      subjects.

 Perfect Attendance Certificate will be awarded to those students who  have not been absent from the beginning     to the end of an academic year. No tardiness or late entry students will be considered.

 
UNGRADED
A student will be given ‘U’ on the report card
 If he/she is absent for the exam and there are insufficient grades to base the results on.

 If  he/she is a late admission and has not accumulated enough marks for grading
 
NOT APPLICABLE
A student will receive NA in the report card
 If he/she was admitted late and has not accumulated enough marks for grading.

 If a subject is not applicable in that grade level.
 
ABSENTEEISM
 Student must not be absent for more than 30 days in order to be promoted to the next year level.

 No retest for continual assessments (C.A), i.e. Test, CW and HW will be taken without a valid medical reason and at   the discretion of Administration.
  No homework or class work will be given or graded for the period of leave or absence. Please note that in such    cases, CA will be affected.
  It is imperative for parents to arrange their vacation to coincide with the school calendar in order to enable their    children to complete the school year successfully.

 Any student (other than new students) absent during the Mid Year and/or Final Exams for any reason other than approved medical leave or Final Exit will be retained in the same level the following year.
 
CONDITIONAL PROMOTION
A student will be on Conditional Promotion if he/she
 Scores 50% and below in English or Mathematics and any of the basic subjects (Literacy, Phonics, Science, Social   Studies, Urdu and Islamic Studies).

  If a student receives two ‘F’ (Fail) on their report card in English or Math and in any of the basic subjects.

  If students absence exceeds 30 days.

  If a student failed to meet the required grade level standard throughout the year due to medical reasons.

  Students on Conditional Promotion will be given the opportunity to proceed to the next grade level on Provisional    Basis.

  The child will be evaluated within a month or within a term; if he/she is having academic difficulty in meeting the    required standard, he/she will be placed in the proper grade level in accordance with his/her performance &    evaluation.

  Conditionally admitted/promoted students will not be allowed another Conditional promotion for the next grade    level at the end of the academic year.

  Administration reserves the right of promotion or retention.
 
RETENTION
A student will be retained if he/she
  Scores below 50% in English (Literature, grammar, writing and/or Phonics) and Mathematics

  If a student receives two F on the report card in English and Math.

  If a student is absent during the Mid Year and Final Exams (excluding approved Medical Leave)

  If a student's academic performance has been affected due to his/her excesive absence.

  If a student missed/failed over 50% of academic requirements for that grade level.

  If a student requires reinforcing the foundation of the concepts given in that grade level.

  If a student has worked below the required grade level standard throughout the year.
